Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (Lab Week)
Celebrating the Faces Behind Every Diagnosis
What Is Medical Laboratory Professionals Week?
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (Lab Week) is an annual celebration of the vital contributions made by laboratory professionals to healthcare and patient safety. Every test result, every diagnosis, and every treatment plan begins in the lab — where highly skilled clinical laboratory scientists, technicians, and pathologists work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure accuracy, quality, and care. This celebration is coordinated by several committee representatives by
18 professional organizations!
Lab Week is a time to:
- Celebrate the dedication and expertise of medical laboratory professionals
- Raise awareness about the crucial role the laboratory plays in healthcare
- Inspire the next generation of laboratory scientists
- Advocate for the visibility, respect, and recognition our field deserve
History of Medical Laboratory Professionals Week:
- 1975: The first Medical Laboratory Professionals Week was celebrated, originally sponsored by the American Society for Medical Technology (now ASCLS).
- 1970s–1990s: Over the years, other professional organizations joined the celebration, including ASCP, AMT, AACC, CLMA, and others.
- 1996: The event officially became "National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week", recognized across the United States.
- Today: Lab Week is celebrated every April, uniting thousands of labs, hospitals, universities, and professionals under one mission — to honor these essential professionals who save lives every day!
