Government Affairs Committee Chair

RESPONSIBLE AND REPORTS TO: President

TERM OF OFFICE: One year during the second year of the two year term.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

A. Serve as a non-voting member on the ASCLS-MI Board of Directors. 1

B. Chair all meetings of the Government Affairs Committee.

C. Actively mentor the Government Affairs Committee Chair-Elect.

D. Coordinate the government activities of ASCLS-MI.

E. Adhere to the Bylaws and General Operating Policies of this Society.

F. Submit written report for each ASCLS-MI Board Meeting and a comprehensive report for the Annual Membership Meeting.

G. Attend all ASCLS-MI Board Meetings and ASCLS-MI Annual Membership Meeting.

Two Members-at-large elected by the ASCLS-MI membership.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop, maintain and publish the public policy of the Society.

2. Review legislation and recommend a Society response to legislation.

3. Assist in effecting the Society's public policy goals by participating in the preparation of:

A. Position papers, news releases, letters to the editor.

B. Communications with legislators.

C. Draft legislation.

4. Conduct hearings at which the membership may provide input.

5. Coordinate the activities of the Grassroots Network and the ASCLS-MI/PAC solicitations.

6. Serve as a resource to the Political Action and the Professional and Public Relations Committees.

7. Annually review and revise the Society's Public Policy.

8. Coordinate ASCLS-MI government-related activities with those of other organizations.

9. Submit budget recommendation and financial report as requested by the Finance Chair.

10. Transfer files to new Government Affairs Committee Chair.
